ABOUT ZW

Why Zombie?

There’s no doubt the zombie genre is now living a great moment: They can be found on TV, online or in the comics. Everyone knows zombies, although not many of their followers know about their origins. At the beginning, they started walking due to voodoo and black magic, not because of lethal viruses. Furthermore, when Romero started making zombie movies they had something that now is pretty much lost: Social criticism.
Zombie World (ZW) came from my admiration of those zombie movies of the late 60s, 70’s and 80s. That’s why we sought a 70’s look, using zooms, still shots and motion within the frame. However, it was that lost social criticism what we really wanted to get back. A zombie fan will very likely ask “What makes ZW different?” The truth is that everything has pretty much been told about zombies but we`ve gone a little further. Our world is already ruled by zombies caught in their daily routines:  They work, they walk, they watch TV, but they don’t actually live. A WARNING FOR ALL THE ZOMBIE FANS: If you expect to see gore, guts, blood or amputations you will probably feel disappointed because our story is more about content.
To sum up, I would like to thank everyone who took part in this project: “Galleta del Lejano Oeste” because without him this project wouldn’t have seen the light. Alberto Olea, great director of photography who made everything easier. Rocio Garcia, great gaffer and camera assistant, who believed in this project and gave shape to this blog. Peter J. Camacho, second camera operator who helped us finish some parts. Agustin Beltrán, creator of all our zombies. JC Guerrero, whose art and work has been wonderful. Francisco Cabrera, who made a great job with the soundtrack from the distance.  And last but certainly the most important, Jose Manuel Rocha, editor and producer of VSF and sound design, whose work has been magnificent. I would also like to thank all the people who played both zombies and humans, without them ZW wouldn’t be a fact.

See you soon,

Juan José Paton, director of ZW.
